Election 97

Extreme measures

Find out where the highest and lowest majorities were, who stayed at home and who voted in droves. Make of it what you will - maybe there's a pattern here...

Want to know where the safest Tory seat is now (well, that one's not hard to guess); what Labour's lowest majority was and where the turn-out was lowest? The tables below should help. They show the results of analysing all the 641 seats in Great Britain, with the exception of the two unusual cases of the Speaker's seat in West Bromwich West, where Labour, as is customary, was not opposed by either of the other two major parties and Tatton, where Labour and the Lib Dems stood down to allow anti-corruption candidate Martin Bell to take the seat. The equivalent statistics for 1992 have also been provided for comparison.
