Robert Waller sums up the situation in Yorkshire & Humberside. VRML by Fin Fahey

VRML Yorkshire

Yorkshire and Humberside is marked by a strong north/south divide, with the south dominated by the largely Labour-voting urban concentrations of Sheffield, Leeds and Hull, while mostly rural North Yorkshire contains many safe Tory redoubts.

The area was a disappointment for Labour in 1992, with one easy win in York, but this time they must be hoping for better things. Elmet, east of Leeds, Batley and Spen, Keighley, Calder Valley and Leeds NE are all vulnerable. Boundary changes give Labour a chance in Humberside's Brigg and Goole and Cleethorpes. The Liberal Democrats have few chances in this region.
