Targets of opportunity

Find out where the target marginals are for the three largest parties, with the help of our region-by-region VRML maps

To make sense of these maps, your browser must be able to display VRML (Virtual Reality Modelling Language). It isn't too tricky, don't worry... Take a look at our help pages and you'll know how to proceed.

On these pages we present a range of VRML worlds that show the constituencies each party can hope to take, region by region, for the Tories, Labour and the Lib Dems. You will also still find our series of regional VRML worlds that show you how the constituencies would vote if the result were exactly as in 1992, if you go to the Virtual Britain page from the main menu.

Each of these charts shows seats that are vulnerable to the three major parties of Great Britain up to a swing of 16 per cent. Constituencies that are safer than this are represented in the traditional party colours. Con-Lab fights are purplish, Lab-Lib Dem are orange-brown, Con-Lib Dem are cyan and fights involving Nationalists are variously light green. The height of each three-D column is inversely proportionate to the swing needed to unseat the incumbent by the second party in the constituency - so the vulnerable spots stand out. Point at the seat and you will see how much swing is needed.
